Are new NI-CAN Series two cards backwards compatible with NI-CAN Version 2.1.2f2

We have a C++ application written with NI-CANTM Software for Windows 2000/NT/XP/Me/98/95 and LabVIEWTM Real-Time (RT) Version 2.1.2f2, our code was broken by a later release of the drivers but we could still use later hardware revisions if we used the old NI-CAN software.

We are having some issues with a new 1 port high speed series 2 PCI-CAN card 189063G-01 is this card backwards compatible with the software that we wish to use?

Hello rico1,

The NI-CAN 2.1 driver supports the Series 2 PCI CAN.

What kind of issues are you getting when you use the latest drivers in C++?

Have a great day.

I do not recall why the new software drivers are not backwards compatible, but that is not the problem.

I uninstalled Version 2.1.2f2 and installed the latest version and the same problem occurs.

The card will fail it's self test reporting that there is a memory conflict, if I go to the Windows XP device drivers tab resource page it reports that there is no conflict.

Unfortunately we have purchased 9 similar PC's - is there a way to fix this?

Hello rico1,

The self-test error may be due to an NI-CAN application running on your computer or a NI-CAN dll that cannot be unloaded from memory. Have a great evening.

There are no other applications that use the CAN card on the computer. I have not installed our software.

The card itself works when installed on a computer from another manufacturer - or even the same manufacturer but an older model.

Hello rico1,

Please try to reset the card in MAX.  To do so, you need to press and hold <Ctrl> + <Shift> and right-click on the CAN card in the Measurement & Automation Explorer. Now, there's a 'Reset Card' option displayed. If you choose this option and confirm the following dialog, the entire CAN card will be reset.

Have a great week.

I reset the card and tried the self test - it crashed the system.

I think we will need to use another PC manufacturer.

Thank you.
