I have a similar problem witn LabVIEW 2010.

If I choose "Wait for debugger on launch", then I can open the block diagram before executing the application, but then I don't have access to my custom run-time menu.

If I choose not to "Wait for the debugger on launch", then I have access to my custom run-time, but I can not access the block diagram. In this instance, right clicking on the front panel only gives me the option to "Quit Debug Session", but I don't see the option to show the Block diagram as described in this knowledgebase: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/8DA679805915DE40862572D5007B2F70

Please find attached a very simple project with a VI that adds two numbers and has a custom run-time menu. The project has the build specification to create the executable. The "Wait for debugger on launch" checkbox is in the Advanced section of the build specification.

Is there a way to debug an application remotely and have access to both the run-time menu and the block diagram at the same time?

Thanks,

Fab

I created a video of the problem of not being able to access the block diagram: video

And also a new idea in the Idea Exchange for the block diagram to open automatically: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Automatically-open-block-diagram-when-debugging-an-app...

That is a strange phenomena. I am looking into a workaround that involves accessing both the menu and the block diagram. Thank you for the detailed information!

Have there been any changes to the status of this issue? I went to NI week and one of the most fabulous instructors ever showed the class remote debugging techniques. I just came across this issue where I can’t access both my custom menu and the block diagram.

Is this issue seen in LabVIEW 2012?

Hello,

I still have the problem in LV 2010. LV2012?

This was reported to R&D (CAR #130070), but the decision has been made not to change the product because you are able to debug the program and then implement a customized toolbar after finishing debugging. If you feel strongly about this being a major issue, you can request that an update be posted to the CAR, requesting the problem be reconsidered. I hope this helps

I wonder who that fabulous instructor was 😉

Unfortunately it seems NI won't fix it. Feel free to vote for my idea in the idea exchange, maybe if we get more people voting for it then they will implement it.

Here is the link for the idea in the Idea Exchange for the block diagram to open automatically
