default look of constant

Status: New

by default, when you create a constant, it look 'expanded'

It will by usefull if we cas configure if a constant look expanded or short by default and if a specific type def look expanded or short.

so you don't loose time to resize all your struc when you create a constant of a big cluster !!!

I understand the basic premise of this idea, but I don't understand what you are trying to show in the second picture. If anything, for the second example the "short look" is larger than the "expanded look". The "short look" there is merely what you get when you select "View as Icon". I'm assuming you're asking why you can't do the same thing as the first example when the constant is a typedef (i.e., double-clicking alternates between expanded and compact look)?

Eric, is it not enough to be able to double-click the border of a dropped constant to turn it into an icon? That doesn't seem like a big waste of time to me.

I *think* that Eric C. might be meaning something along the lines of this idea: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Add-Block-Diagram-design-for-typedefs/idi-p/940093

Hello all

My example is only a short example;

This idea is more interresting when you use big cluster.

Example 2 :

(imagine whit a complexe vi and with a lot of striuc)

New-1.png

A need to créate une default input

it gives this :

New-2.png

The struc is rezised

so i use the short look version

New-5.png

but a big empty space is in diagram

and i lost time to re shrink the size

New-6.png

of course you cas deactivate the autoresize option, but in this case you lose the constant (the short version is placed to barycenter of the image of the big version)

have a nice day !!!!!

So you want an option to place all cluster constants on the diagram as icons? That makes sense to me.

David S. has the right Idea I think. Kudos for that!

My kudo is for idea as expressed by David S. I'd just like an option because creating a constant moves block diagram objects if they are in the way

Just to be clear, this should be for cluster constants only, but it definitely is very needed. I almost dread putting clusters constants on my block diagrams. They are huge and I have to play clean up every time (by turning them to icons and then resizing every stupid thing). This would be a great feature!

Don't turn on "auto-expand" in the first place. End of story.
