autostarts - drawing the PC's power

Status: New
When I installed LabView I realized that a really large number of automatically starting programs is being installed. Even when running LabView not all of them are really needed. But they are still actively working in the PCV's memory ant take the power that would be needed for other applications. Basically when LabView is not running at all. A possibility should be implemented to deactivate these automatic applicatins: -Reduce the number of Autostart-applications to these that are really needed -Give the possibility to switch them all off when there is no intention to run LabView. A reboot for re-activating these autostart applications would not be that problem. -A minimum request is to give a list of Autostart applications that are needed for each LabView-Application. This would help to deactivate the autostart-programs manually.

I always tweak my pc, using one of those thousand of free-tools, for removing unwanted (almost all) auto-running "helpers".

IMHO installing such a kind of tools (of questionable utility) behind the back of the PC's owner is a bad practice. May be that the intention was "to help", but the final results are mainly a cluttered notification area, a slow starting computer, a loss of (expensive and precious) resources.

As far as I know none of the auto-run tools coming with LV is indispensable. May be that I am wrong, but my LV works perfectly without all of them. So feel free to prevent their auto start.

Kudos.

Hi, this is what I was about to do. But somehow I failed, and my computer had some booting problems. But finally I don't think it is the intention of National Instruments of making their custumers spending some of their valuable time, and bit by bit removing the unneeded applications which hve been previously installed by National Instruments. National Instruments is a respectable company, and I think they should do something for their customers to have a best working software!

The current installers were all designed for desktop environments. Until relatively recently (four or five years) development in LV on a laptop really wasn't practical. It is these days, so it's probably a good suggestion for us to start reviewing some of these practices. Or we could just plow ahead with the current and expect that battery life, etc, on these mobile devices will catch up. 🙂 But I'll kudos the idea.

Excuse me for strong words but forcing program to auto start is the same as sending spam mail.

Is it possibly that NI wants to keep hands on your computer, that, in no case you have an illegal copy of LabView installed? Anyway, one should be responsible to legally use your software. What about LabView on Linux? Does it also install so many autostart software? Maybe it is time to change to Linux. I am so tired of Windows anyway.
