A sting ~1/7th the length of its body?
Man I'd hate to run into one of those in a dark alley. Or any alley. Or at all for that matter.

O M G.
Those things actually HUNT tarantulas. There's pelnty of examples of footage on Youtube. It attacks and kills animals about 4 or 5 times its weight.... That's hard-core.
If my software bugs were that tough, I think I'd just give up programming for good.
Shane.

Local bug of the month for October is the Solpugid. This specimen is about 70mm long. Note the large jaws (everything past the beady little eyes), they can inflict a nasty bite.
One night my wife and I were camping in the nearby hills with a small campfire going. She asked why the ground was moving, it turned out there were hundreds of these bugs scampering around the fire competing to eat the other bugs drawn by the flames. Needless to say, she did not get out of her chair until the fire was out and the creatures were gone.

This wife still camps with you?

Yes, she still does! But she is tiring of tent camping and would prefer a camp trailer.
Luckily she was not with me the time I came across the 7 inch scorpion under the tent. Or the time I went on a moonlight hike on the reservation and found myself almost surrounded by rattlesnakes (not too much of a threat, they were laid out flat, not coiled up).

What kind of algorithms do you use i mean what is your escape route?

muks:
For the scorpion, I flushed him out with a shovel, scooped him up and then flung him (DID NOT injure nor maim him) out away from camp.
The snakes, well I carefully backtracked my route taking care to stay away from brush. The moonlight alone was bright enough to see clearly them. After enough encounters you subconsciously train your brain to pick out straight figures on the ground as potential hazards. Machine vision algorithms at work 🙂
I was a bit paranoid back at camp because there were a lot of large rocks they could be lurking under.

Phewwww...
I was a bit worried that an animal may have been harmed in the making of this story.
