Top Tags / Top Taggers

Hi Laura,

RE my suggestion

A)
Instead on varying the font size with the post count, could the font size be based on the ranking instead? With the current scheme, tags with high counts can push all others into the fog. I would prefer the font vary with their relative postion in a list sorted by number of occurneces.

EG
I click on a tag and see it related tags "LabVIEW" has 75 occurneces and maybe "LabVIEW_Array" has 10 occurences. Lets also assume the other tags have less occurences. I still want to see "LabVIEW" in the biggest font, but rather than make the font of "LabVIEW_Array" 1/7th the size of "LabVIEW" I would like it to be just one notch down.

Please the attached zip and run "ParseTag_List_Counts.vi"

The sub-VI "MapCounts_to_Font_Size.vi" illustrates what I would like.

BTW:
The afore mentioned VI works the same as the previous but aslo sets font size based on number of occurences.

Ben

Hi Ben,

Bug 2 has been reproduced - thank you for the instructions

A)  I like this idea.  I cannot currently implement this, but I will pass the suggestion on to Lithium.

B) When I click on the "View All" button I can view all of my tags for that post BUT I have no way to get back to the post!  This is a good observation.  I will pass along the suggestion.

C)  There already is a View All link for community tags, I think you may not have come across a message with enough tags to see this yet:

D) I'd like to be able to just navigate through the clouds. What I mean is if I click on a tag in a cloud, I'd like to go to its cloud directly.  It seems to me like you can do this already.  For instance, when I click on LabVIEW in any tag cloud, I am taken to the LabVIEW tag page with the related tags on the right hand side.  Can you give me an example of what you would like the behavior to be?

E) When adding a tag, I'd like to have ready access to all of my existing tags. The list will allow me to quickly choose a set of caTAGorical tags while also avoiding typos. The utility I posted earlier is a hack to fill that gap.   Yes, this is a good suggestion that is on my list.

F) Can you bump the max size of my tag cloud? 2000 would be good for now. I now have to cut and paste from two screens to get all of my tags into by hack!  Which tag cloud do you want increased?  I went to look at your profile to see what your options where and noticed something odd - did you turn off tagging for your account?

Thanks!
Laura

Yes I turned off tagging.

Tagging is too cumbersome for me to sneak any in while I am at work. It still seems that the forum is much more responsive with tagging off.

I'll turn it back on when I want to use it.

RE: your reply to my D

"when I click on LabVIEW in any tag cloud, I am taken to the LabVIEW tag page with the related tags on the right hand side.  Can you give me an example of what you would like the behavior to be?"

Yes and then you have to click the "View all" of the related tags to get to the next cloud. I'd like to go cloud to cloud until I get to a topic where I want to see the links. I can guess that you can not fix that and you will pass it on to Lithium.

Well you gessed right that it was " Delete Tag List Size " that I wanted increased. I would never have guessed that name!

So...

Can you bump it to 2K?

I promise to slow down.

I'm sorry Ben, I'm still confused.  Can you post a screenshot of the page where you want the cloud size increased?  Did you try to increase it youself and have trouble?

Thanks,
Laura

This is the only place i found that had all of my tags.

At home last night, all tags were on one screen.

Today at work they are on two screens.

Ben

Thanks for the clarification Ben!

That page - Top Tags in Category - Most Active Software boards actually will have tags from everyone in the community that have been applied to all messages in the Most Active Software Boards category, not just your tags.  You can increase the size of that tag cloud using Tagging Detail Page: Tag Cloud Size in your profile.  The default is 400, but you can change it to whatever you like.

Try this out and see if it is what you are looking for.

Thanks,
Laura

This may or may not be related to the crashes Ben's seeing - in FF 2, every once in a while, one of the pages throws a message along the lines of "a script on this page timed out" and gives you an option of stopping it or retrying (if I remember correctly).

This is what it looks like.

Pressing stop appears to have no effect on the page behavior. Tagging still works. As I said, I don't know if it's related or not, but I never saw it before the recent upgrade.

This is on a rather old and basically half dead PC, so it might have to do with performance and timeouts.

Hi Ben,

I looked around, and Tagging Detail Page: Tag Cloud Size should also control the size of that tag cloud.  It controls the size of the clouds you see when you click "view all" to see all the tags.  Let me know if this doesn't work as expected.

tst- thanks for posting that picture.  I also use FF 2 and have not seen anything like that.  Does it happen on random pages, or a particular board or message?

Thanks,
Laura
