CRIO + Veristand -> LabView required?

Hello,

I want to run Veristand on a CRIO and I'm just wondering if FPGA programming of CRIO is mandatory or optional, in other words: do I need LabView, too?

In more detail, several I/O-modules are to be put in the chassis (an extension chassis, which should be connected via EtherCAT, is required, too). The I/Os "just" have to be read/written. Is there a standard configuration of the FPGA just passing through the values of the I/O or will I have to reprogram the FPGA via LabView if I want to put in another I/O module?

If I need LabView in addition to Veristand, which modules are required?

Thanks in advance.

There is an NI VeriStand addon you can download and use called the Scan Engine and EtherCAT Custom Device.  This allows you to read/write to modules in your local chassis (CompactRIO) as well as in your EtherCAT chassis.  If you use this custom device, you will not need to have LabVIEW or do any FPGA programming.

For more information on what the scan engine is, see this document.
