Introduction
The NI myDAQ demo myGrid is a tool to simulate how renewable energy sources can be used to supplement power plants that utilize expendable fuels. It models how power is generated, transmitted and distributed in a real-life industrial, commercial or residential setting. LabVIEW is used to optimize the system as the power production from the solar panel and the load change. This is visualized through a power produced and consumed display, as well as an RPM measurement from the generator.
In the NI myGrid Documentation attached below, it includes the following information:
Part 1: Building the myGrid
Part 2: Understanding the Circuit
Part 3: Running the Simulation
NOTE: the documentation is developed for the 1st generation myGrid shown below. To see the latest version, visit ni.com/mygrid.
It's really a good eco-system example!
Mark,
Were do you purchase the board? I would like to make one for my sons science class.
Tom
Hi Twerner - The board is currently not available for purchase. We have the instructions for you to develop a similar board. We are investigating making this available for purchase in the upcoming months. I will post more details when they become available.
Mark
Hi MarkW, do you have any update about the project to purchase the borads? Thanks. Abraham.
Hard to believe this device is nearly a decade old! Studica.com has MyGrid units available for educational institutions
We find this a very useful tool for individuals wanting a hands-on understanding of the electrical grid, this is about as "micro" a micro-grid as you can get!
