cRIO 9045 CMOS battery replacement - 3V?

I noticed that the cRIO CMOS battery, a cRIO 9045 in my case, is a 3.6V battery. I wonder if this can be replaced with a 3.0V battery?

 

The issue I have is that in my application I can only use batteries which are UL 1642 or UL 2054 qualified (don't ask...). The Tadiran TLH-2450/P in the cRIO unfortunately does not have this qualification.

 

The other option I see is not using a CMOS battery at all, although that of course means that the clock will start at 1970-01-01 00:00 after each power loss (https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA03q000000x5HKCAY).

Look for Li/SOCl2 battery chemistry in a 2450 size with your UL 1642/2054 certification.

 

Edit: 2450 battery is non-rechargeable as well

Well, I already looked for a replacement battery, and it's not the 2450 size or the UL certification, the problem is that I did not find a 3.6V (Li/SOCl2) that fulfills size and certification requirements. Must be non-rechargeable by the way.

There's no problem with finding a 3.0V one, hence the question if 3.0V suffice, i.e. if the 3.6V are just to extend lifetime.

Gave it a try... so far, the results are

 

  • cRIO runs fine without a CMOS battery. As expected, the clock resets after power loss, to 2012-01-01T00:00Z, not to 1970 as the docs I linked mention
  • using a normal CR2032 battery (nominal 3 V) also seems to work fine (replace at your own risk!)
