Install linux on PXIe-1078

Solved!

Hello

In 2018, we purchased a NI-PXIe 1078 chassis with a PXIe 6361 data acquisition card, a PXI 4130 SMU card, and a PXI 4139 SMU system with Source Adapt technology.

The PXIe-1078 is currently driven by Windows 10 that we would like to replace by a linux distribution. Our objective is to replace the code developed in Labview by a code developed in Python via Pyvisa. Is it possible? If so, do you recommend a specific linux distribution.

Many thanks for your help

1078 is a Chassis and requires a computer to function, either in the form of Embedded Controller or a regular laptop/desktop connected over a MXIe interface.

Technically you can replace your LV code with Python. There are some details to note,

  1. You can't use PyVISA as NI hardware use dedicated low level drivers - refer Python Resources for NI Hardware and Software - NI
  2. NI instrument drivers and model supported varies by OS, not all Linux versions are supported - please check your hardware and OS compatibility at NI Hardware and Software Operating System Compatibility - NI

Thanks for your feedback and recommendation, a module PXIe-8821 is also installed on the PXIe-1078 chassis.
