Express PCI card causes conflict w/ethernet card

Solved!
Go to solution
When I install the express PCI/MXI card, it causes a conflict with my existing ethernt card and will not allow the CPU to register on the network.  When I remove the PCI card, the problem goes away.  Is there something that I need to configure to stop this from happening?

Out of curiosity, what kind of PC are you using (e.g., Dell or Custom with Gigabyte motherboard, etc.)?  Have you tried swapping slots and moving the cards around in your PC?  Where are you seeing this conflict?  In Device Manager?  Is this the first time you have used this MXI device?  Has this ethernet card and MXI device ever worked before in the same PC?  What kind of ethernet card is it?  Do you get the same behavior in another PC with the same ethernet and MXI card?

Lots of questions Smiley Very Happy

Cheers!

it's a Dell computer with DuoCore processor; nothing special...I have not tried another slot yet, or another computer either...it's the first time I've tried to use this particular MXI card or even a MXI system....I plan to troubleshoot ASAP but for now I was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue....

when the card is install and power applied, the following error message comes up during the initial boot cycle:

ERROR INITIALIZING PCI EXPRESS SLOT 3

NIC FAILURE

I've tried another MXI card with the same results...I only have one machine to try out and it only has one express PCI slot...we are using the onboard NIC that is on the Dell motherboard....the tower is labeled as a Precision T3400 and we are running XP....

What MXI device are you using?  What is the part number?  Do you have a PXI chassis powered up, running, and connected to you PC when you power on your computer?

we have a PXI chassis and an RF unit....neither of the devices are connected to the MXI card at anytime....we have trouble just getting the card installed with no errors at this time...after I can do this with no issues, I plan to test both devices to make sure they are functioning properly...

What about the MXI device?  What is the model and part number (e.g., PCIe-8361 and 195315C-01L)?  I've seen this behavior before with a PCIe-8361, and to alleviate this symptom I made sure that a powered-on PXI system was connected to the MXI controller before powering on the computer.  I'd be interested in hearing if that works for you.

MXI card: NI PCIe-8361

PXI unit: NI PXI-1033  194918A-01

RF unit: NI PXI-1042Q  191238C-01

In order to communicate with your chassis, you will need a PXI MXI device in slot 1 of the PXI-1042Q.  The PXI-1033 has an integrated MXI device that you should be able to directly connect to in the back of the chassis.  Were you able to try connecting a powered-on PXI system (PXI-1033 or PXI-1042Q) to your PC's MXI and then powering on your PC?  This will be good information for any other forums members that run into a similar issue.

Cheers!

i haven't tried anything new today....way too busy....both of the NI units we have (the PXI and RF) are complete units and should just connect to the PC vie the MXI cable and card as far as I know.....
