My /sbin files all say 2014, and installing the 2014 .ipk worked.
The first step of the process, then, is to determine the year of the OS and work in that directory. As I just installed everything fresh (it took an entire day to download everything!) I assumed I somehow would not have accidentally ended up with a 2014 version.
Everything works fine for now and I'm not changing anything for a bit.
