Hello,
I am using the NI ELVIS II+ platform to power the ADA4254RU-EBZ evaluation board.
According to the NI ELVIS II+ specification, the ±15V fixed power supply provides up to 500mA output current.
However, I could not find any documentation about the current consumption of the NI ELVIS II+ itself on the ±15V rails.
My questions are:
1.What is the internal current consumption of the ±15V power supply of the NI ELVIS II+?
(Is there a typical or maximum value for its own consumption?)
2.Does the 500mA maximum output current refer to the total available current for external loads only, or does it also include the internal current consumption of the NI ELVIS II+?
3.When I connect my ADA4254 board to the ±15V power of the NI ELVIS II+, the -15V indicator sometimes turns off (triggering protection). I want to check if it is because of my external board, or if the internal power consumption is affecting the available current.
Any clarification on this would be very helpful!
Thank you.

Hello,
The 500mA specification is for the current available on the +/- 15 V terminals in the device. Internal consumption does not affect this specification.
Yes, if the circuit protection is enabling on the board, it's likely due to an inrush current draw from your circuit. Consider measuring the current being drawn by your circuit in those terminals as they are enabled, or when the action triggering the protection is performed.
Cheers,
