It looks like the registry got scrambled. Follow these steps....

1. Delete your installation folder. "C:\Program Files\Electronics Workbench".  Please note that in case you have other software of EWB then delete that specific folder, like \EWB8\.... or \MultiVHDL8\, and not the root Electronics Workbench folder.

2. Once the folder has been deleted we have to clear the Windows Registry, please be aware that this is very delicate and you should only delete the folders I will mention. If you delete something different you might corrupt your computer. So, go to Start >> Run... >> type "regedit" and click OK. Now browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >> SOFTWARE >> Electronics Workbench. If you only had Multisim and you are going to uninstall everything, then delete this whole folder, right-click on it and select delete. Otherwise, if you are going to delete only Multisim then expand the folder and delete the Multisim folder.

3. Close the Registry. Go to your Add/Remove Programs utility from the Control Panel and see if Multisim 8 is still listed. If it is, then look at this Microsoft article in which it explains how to get rid of a program that has been uninstalled but is still listed in the registry.

Hope that helps...

I've got the same problem. I need to get rid of Multisim 8 (a cracked version) to install a legitim version Multisim 8.

J followed the guidelines in the response from NI, but there is still remaining a small file (1.96 Mb), that prevent me from installing the legitim version.

I've got Windows Vista on the computer. Maybe thats the problem? When I run "programs and funktions" in the control panel, I can see the file: multisim 8 from EWB 1.96Mb, but not where it is located.

I have looked all over in the reg-database and deleted all files with names refering to multisim/ewb, but the problem resist.

Please help me out here.

Best regards

Ribaso

Hello Ribaso,

This is Martijn from NI Netherlands. Your problem was forwarded from the Denmark office to me, so I will look into this problem. I tried to call you yesterday but I coudn't reach you, also my e-mail wasn't delivered (I think I have fault in your mail address). But working this way is also a solution.

I talked to the EWB group and we think that the cracked version installed registry entries and maybe other files in other locations. We don't have experience with these versions but are hoping that a screen shot of the error message will provide us with some information. Is it possible to add this to a post?

Hello Martijn

Thank you for dealing with this problem. Unfortunately I cannot attach anything to this reply, but I have forwarded some screen shots to Christer in Denmark, so he can sent them to you with my correct email address.

Hoping you'll find a solution . . .

Hello Ribaso,

I did send you a e-mail with the folowing solution (thanks to my Canedian colleagues);

1.  Go to the Control Panel and remove Multisim (if possible)

2.  Go to C:\Programs Files, locate Electronics Workbench folder and manually delete it.

3.  Click Start>>RUN and type "Regedit "

4.  Locate HKey_Local_Machine\software\ locate Electronics Workbench and delete this entire key

5.  Locate Hkey_Current_user\software and again locate Electronics workbench and delete the entire key (this key may or may not be there

I hope this works,

Best regards,
