Removing chunks of a copper area

Hi all,

I have placed a copper area on the copper top layer. When I place IC's only very small copper area surrounding the pins is automatically removed. What I want to do is be able to remove manually parts of the copper area. How do I do this?

Thanks.

1. Right click on IC and select In-Place Part Edit
2. Right click on pins and select Properties
3. Through Hole Pin Properties (SMT Pin...)>>General>>Clearances

Hi Viktar,

There are two ways to achieve this. As supsup noted, you can increase the clearance of the pins so that they will remove more of the copper area. The other alternative is to change the properties of the copper area so that it either automatically or manually removes these "islands".

Automatically Remove Islands

Ultiboard can automatically remove pieces of unconnected copper depending on the size of the piece of copper.

  1. Double click the copper area to show the properties dialog. Select the Copper Area tab
  2. At the bottom right, select Smaller than, and enter a value for the size. The size is the smaller of the X or Y dimension, so if you input 100 mil, then if the X or Y dimension is less than 100 mil, the island will be automatically removed.

Manually Remove Islands

You can manually marks islands to be removed.

  1. Select Edit > Copper Delete > Copper Island
  2. Click on the small piece of copper you want removed
