How to create a new diode

Just a quick question. I just got Multisim and noticed it doesn't have some of the diodes my labs call for in the database. How would I go about creating a new diode? For example I need a 5240B Zener for one of my school labs but it's not in the student edition of multisim. I know I can create components but when it asks for a model I don't see any kind of generic zener would I just choose one of the ones it has and use the spec sheet to change the settings? And yes I know I can use the virtual zener and just enter the settings for whatever diode I am using but I was hoping to make a database with all the ones we are commonly using in our labs.

Thank you

There are two way to do this depending on your version. One is to use the Model Makers if your version has it and  use the datasheet to get your parameters. The other way is to search the internet for the model and where it says to enter a model copy and paste it. Most manufactuers have spice models on their websites and diodes are usually easy to find

My personal way of doing this is to take components from the master database, edit them with my new models and then save them to my user database. It makes the whiole process of creating new components much easier.

I hope this helps.

Just a quick question before you dive into creating a new part. Have you looked in the databse under ZENER?. In my database the 1N5240B is a zener (unless I am mistaken on the part number)

Sorry about that. I failed to correctly read you post where you have already tried what said in my last post. What I am going to do for you is to post a schematic with this zener on it. Hoperfully all you will have to do is save it to your database (if you can do that with your version).

Thanks I'll do it the way you suggest by editing then saving to my user database. Although I can't seem to save the part from your schematic I can use it to see what footprint etc I need to pick under the component wizard.

I have a question. Are you able to view the model information of the zener from my schematic? If you can't let me know and I will post the model by itself for you to copy and paste into your created part.

Yes I was able to view the model info and did just what you suggest I copied it into the model section for the new part 🙂

Thank You

Hi kavyatweetee,

Is this part available on the Mouser database? If so, you can follow this tutorial which explains how to update parts.

Also, because this thread is many years old, I would recommend creating a new post to get more visibility in the community!
