How do i remove components from an existing design?

Solved!
Go to solution

I have an old design that is being updated. Several components have been removed from the schematic in Multisim, and the changes were forward annotated to Ultiboard.

The components were still in the Ultiboard PCB layout (every other program I have used automatically deleted them).

I manually deleted the components in Ultiboard. Now the Ultiboard DRC is telling me the components are not in the design. No kidding!

I see these components are listed in the netlist in Ultiboard, even though they have been deleted from the netlist in Multisim.

Apparently Multisim fails to pass the new netlist information to Ultiboard with forward annotation - that's pretty poor since it is the purpose of forward annotation to pass along design changes!

How do I send the updated netlist from Multisim to Ultiboard?

It should automatically remove the parts, I've done it in the past......are you sure you have the check all option when you forward annotate? Sometimes there is a safety check that only adds but not remove unless all net options are selected......including delete

Thanks, but I can't find a "check all" option in Multisim.

There are no options in the forward annotation process except for the file name and location.

In the "Options/Global Preferences/General" dialog there is an option to make forward annotation file names unique. That's the only forward annotation option I can find.

Likewise, there are no options in Ultiboard for annotation from a file except the file name and location. In the "Options/Global Preferences/General" dialog there is an option to make back annotation file names unique. I don't see any other annotation options.

Hi PRH,

The component should have been removed but try this:

In Ultiboard, select Tools>>Netlist Editor, click the Delete button then select all your nets and remove them. The components and traces should remain. Now, try forward annotation from Multisim.

If this doesn't work, I like to look at your file.  If you can send me a private message with your email address and I will contact you.
