encoder with PCI 6230

Hi,

I have PCI 6230 and DAQ 6062e, and a motor encoder.
Using one counter, I want to gather data of angle of position in CCW and CW direction (such that the wave form chart in Labview shows -180deg ~ +180degree)

Although I can get the angle of CW direction rotation, the angle of other direction doesn't work properly when PCI 6230 is used. I used ''DAQ Assistant'' in Labview for this case.
However, when DAQ 6062e and codes that I made are used instead of DAQ assistnat function (since DAQ 6062e doesn't support DAQ assistant in Labview), they are working.

Please help me out with PCI 6230. Thanks.

Hi chrhee,

I first wanted to mention that the 6062e can use the DAQ Assistant if you have the DAQmx drivers.  The reason you don't see your 6062e when creating an angular position task is because E-series cards don't support this type of measurement.  Some good information about this can be found on this thread.  Also, a great article for doing E-series quadrature encoder measurements can be found here.  In regards to your M-series NI-6230, I tested a similar setup on my NI-6251 and have no problems counting in both CCW and CW directions.  Make sure your making the following connections: CTR 0 A - Pin 13, CTR 0 B - Pin 33, and CTR 0 Z - Pin 32.  These pin numbers can be found in Measurement and Automation (MAX) by finding your device (My System » Devices and Interfaces » NI-DAQmx Devices » NI-PCI 6230) and right-clicking and selecting Device Pinouts.  Also make sure you have ground from your encoder connected to the digital ground on the card.

I hope this helps,
Paul C.
