Unable to get a Fresh NI installation

The Software for our PXI instrument based ATE still uses NIDAQ 6.9.3 with Measurement Studio 6.0, DMM 2.0.1, NI Visa 2.6.1, MAX 2.2 etc. They have been working fine and we need to continue using them for some more time, before migrating our Software to work with NIDAQ 8.0mx series.

Recently, after we installed NIDAQ 8.1mx setup for demo view, we are trying to go back to our known NI software configuration setup with NIDAQ 6.9.3 etc. as mentioned above. But we are unable to get a working setup again and are struggling for the past over 2 days. We get a error message when we launch NI MAX 2.2 and it crashes. Due to that none of our ATE software tools can run, as they use all the NI stuff underneath. The error we get is shown in the attached document.

We contacted NI, Bangalore, India over phone and they gave us some tips. Please see the email from them. It includes actions like cleaning up the registries step by step, running the Windows installer clean up tool of Microsoft etc. We followed all those exactly and reinsalled all our old set of software. But we still have the same problem of NI MAX 2.2 crashing with same error.

We are desparate to get this issue solved so that we can progress with our work. And we do not want to format our hard disk drive. We hope someone can help us with the right and detailed solution for this issue without formating the HDD. Or is that the only option?

Hi Rajakumar,

It is important to note that Traditional NI-DAQ 6.9.3 cannot be installed on the same system with any version of DAQmx.  If you want to have both drivers on a single computer, you have to first upgrade the Traditional DAQ driver to version 7.x.  Any version 7.x can be installed with DAQmx without causing any problems, and you will still be able to use the same Traditional DAQ API in your programs.

I would try downloading the latest Traditional DAQ driver and installing that.  If you can get that to work, then you should be able to reinstall the DAQmx driver just fine.  Let us know how it goes!

Dear Justin,

Thank you very much for the reply. I will use your suggestion when I want to have both versions together on same computer.

Right now, my problem is seen when I am trying to revert back the whole setup to work with 6.9.3 traditional installation. I have uninstalled mx setup completely, but we see the crash / error mentioned after we install the pure traditional setup. I guess if you go through my message again with this background you may be able to provide me suitable guidance.

I see...I didn't realize you had uninstalled DAQmx.  It is very strange that you are still seeing that error after clearing out those registry entries. 

I think the best thing for you to try is to uninstall the 6.9.3 installation you currently have on your computer by using the Add/Remove Programs option in the control panel.  Once that is finished uninstalling, download and install the latest Traditional driver, 7.4.1.  I'm hoping that installing this later version will either overwrite or bypass the 'corrupt' part of the last installation.  Plus, you'll eventually need this version of the driver to run with DAQmx.

Try doing that first, and let me know how it goes.
