USB-6008 compatibility

I am looking to replace my DAQPad-6020E (777474-01) in an overdesigned system with a low-cost DAQ, preferably with the USB-6008 or 6009 (size is an issue). The 6020E uses Traditional NI-DAQ(v7.4.1) support, where the USB-6008/9 is listed as using the NI-DAQmx(v8.1). The application I believe was written in VC++ .NET and GUI developed with LabView(v7). Is there any possibility that I can get away with only having the DLL rewritten?

Hi,

It really depends on how your code was written. There is quite a big difference in programming between NI-DAQ and NI DAQmx but if all the acquisition is handled in the C++ dll, you could just have that rewritten, it isn't just a matter of replacing the functions though.

This tutorial explains a bit more about the transition from NI DAQ to DAQmx in the .NET environment.

Just a caution regarding 600x hardware. I advise that you carefully review the specifications and limitations of the devices to be sure that they are suitable for your application. Some recurring issues that people who do not look at the specs and then find out later that they are not suitable for their applications are:

Limited AO SW timed update rate of 150Hz max and just 0-5V output range, low AI input impedance of only 144Kohm which can load down your signals and cause errors in measurements, and AI input for single ended configuration only has +/-10V range.

Thank you for responding. I will have my programmer try this out with the new DLL. Thank you again.

AnalogKid, I did check the specs carefully several times since I'm new to this, but thank you for pointing it out. My req's are 4 DIFF analog in (0-5V range from sources), and a sample rate min of 2 samples/sec/channel. I'm still trying to figure out why the original drawing utilized a DAQPad-6020E, and a DAQPad-1200 before that.
