Setting Up 6111

Hi, I have a PCI-6111 that I am measuring a voltage signal with (output of ignition coil).

I am curious as to how this should be physically connected and setup on my BNC-2110 & in MAX.

I currently have the BNC-2110 set to FS, and MAX automatically sets the measurement to psuedodifferential.  My physical connect I have the voltage going to the center pin of the BNC connector on the BNC-2110.  I am kind of curious if this setup makes sense and wondering how the ground should be wired exactly.

Thanks in advance!

Hi esa,

You shouldn't have a problem connecting the BNC-2110 to the PCI-6111.  I checked with the S Series Help file under Connectors & Accessories and it appears to be a supported combination.

Just keep in mind that you will not be able to read anything on analog input channels 2-7 because the PCI-6111 has only 2 analog input lines.

Regards,

Measure voltage out of an IGNITION COIL- I hope you intend to use some sort of voltage reduction 🙂

What is the peak output of the coil versus max allowable input voltage of the card?

Thanks for the replies.

You are both correct, this is not the first unit I have made; however I was having unexpected results with this unit and was trying to recall exactly how I had setup the last unit.  (if you are curious the peak voltage I expect to see is around 27,000 volts)

I found the problem yesterday; the voltage reduction unit I am using was leaking voltage to ground, creating very strange, fluctuating results.

Thanks for the help!
