Problems using USB-6211 with VMware virtual server running LabView 8.6

I'm trying to use a locally attached USB-6211 DAQ with a VMware virtual server. The OS recognizes the DAQ device when I plug it in and displays  'found new hardware'. It offers several options for me to use the device. No matter which option I select, within a few seconds the 'found new hardware' window re-appears. If I exit or choose 'take no action' it just keeps re-appearing. In MAX, the device is listed but has a red 'x' next to it. The red 'x' goes away when you make a selection, but returns when the 'found new hardware' window re-appears.

       I know, it's wierd.

It seems like the local machine and the server are fighting for control of the DAQ.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Al,

Do you have different versions of NI-DAQmx installed on the host OS and the guest OS?

The firmware for the USB-6211 is downloaded from the PC every time you plug the device in. That's why it enumerates as "USB Firmware Loader" first (in Windows Device Manager, not MAX), and then re-enumerates as "USB-6211". It sounds like you currently have the "USB Firmware Loader" device connected to the host OS and the "USB-6211" device connected to the guest OS.

I think you can resolve this by configuring VMWare to connect both the "USB Firmware Loader" and "USB-6211" devices to the guest OS.
