How to send commands to RS232 port through USB 6008?

Hi guys,
Currently I have to connect MicroLynx 4 pump controller to rs 232 of my PC and to use program like IMSTerm to send commands like SLEW=20 to start pumping with some rate and SSTP to stop it.
I was just wondering if I could connect this RS232 device to USB 6008 as I am using it anyway and write some simple VI to send commands within main porgram.
Is it possible?
Alterantevely I could use both USB and RS232 ports on PC but with Program able to communicate with both of them. I prefer first way , because, not every PC nowdays has RS232.
Where should I start? Can somebody point me on some samples. I do not have a great experience in programming but I think I can handle it.
Regards. Sergey.

The USB-6008 is a basic DAQ device with some software timed digital I/O. It is not capable of RS-232 communication. Any VI that would attempt to do this would not be simple at all and I don't think it would be very robust or capable of very fast baud rates. A USB->RS-232 converter is cheap. Just check the forum for converters thatare known to work with VISA. I'm using an 8 port from VScom. It was about U$100. Single port adapters are much less.

OK,
but is it possible to have communications with RS232 and USB 6008 in the same program?
In which forum do I have for to look RS232 programs or there are samples shipped with LabView?
Sergey.

It's easily possible to combine serial with DAQmx or anything else you might want to use. There are a couple of shipping examples. Just open the example finder and enter serial at the search tab.
