How do I get my DAQCard-AI-16XE-50 PCMCIA card to work with Windows2000?

I currently have some software that was written for 5.1 that was used in a Windows 98 computer. I now need to use the same program in Windows2000. I have tried to install the DAQCard-AI-16XE-50 PCMCIA card in my laptop but the hardware installer does not find any files for the device.

Can anyone help me through this process so this will now work in a Windows2000 environment?

Thank you for contacting National Instruments.

If you haven't already, install NI-DAQ 7.3, the newest version of NI's DAQ driver. This should provide support for your DAQCard.

I have tried the latest versions in every configuration I can think of. As soon as I reboot the machine and insert the PCMCIA card (DAQCard-AI-16XE-50) the hardware installation wizard comes up. The problem I am having is that I "point" the hardware wizard to the folder which contains the latest software so it can install the hardware. It does not see it. What do I do? I have tried all the help that was posted as well as documented to try. Can you suggest something else? Is there a particular .inf file I need to point the wizard to, so it can finish installing?

What kind of computer are you using? When the Found New Hardware Wizard comes up, does it list the card as a NI device? Does the card show up in your Device Manager?

Do you have the native socket driver installed for your PCMCIA, or are you using a 3rd party driver? NI's products have only been tested with the Windows socket driver.

The laptop is a Dell Latitude Model C510/610. The PCMCIA Socket driver is native and not a 3rd party driver. The Laptop is loaded with Standard Microsoft software such as (Windows2000, office 2000, adobe, etc) The laptops 2 PCMCIA ports have both been tested with other cards and worked fine.

Yes the NI device is recognized by the device manager. The problem I see when I go to devices is that the driver is not installed for that device. It is a type 01 error? Every time I install the card in the laptop, the hardware wizard comes up and tries to install the driver for it. It does not know where to go for the driver. Its looking for an .inf file that I can't find. I point it to the folders that I downloaded off the NI site but it does not find what its looking for.

Hi Jamie,

Try having the Hardware Wizard search for the file under c:\winnt\inf. You should have a nidaq.inf file in this directory.

1. Open the Device Manager (Start » Settings » Control Panel » System » Hardware).
2. In the Device Manager, right click on "Simple Communications Controller" under "Other Devices" and go to "Properties."
3. Click on the "Update Driver" button.
4. Click next on the first panel.
5. Select "Search for a suitable driver."
6. On the next panel select "Specify a location."
7. Use the browse button to navigate to c:\winnt\inf and click OK. This will tell Windows to search that location for the driver.
8. Once the driver is found, click Next, then Finish.

Please let me know your results.
