myDAQ uses functionality common to the DAQmx and ELVISmx driver packages, so rather than building a special myDAQ driver package we've decided to use existing packages which already contain the required drivers. We do this for most of our DAQ products to simplify setup. I understand your concern though, 1.6 Gb is a lot of storage space. On the bright side, DAQmx and ELVISmx are the only packages you would need for a good chunk of our hardware, so you would only have to install them once to use a lot of our products.
