What are those roles

You did not mention what programming language you are using, but Specifying Number of Samples When Continuously Acquiring with NI-DAQmx for LabVIEW is applicable to all programming languages.

As I have mentioned in my previous reply, a detailed explanation is provided in Specifying Number of Samples When Continuously Acquiring with NI-DAQmx for LabVIEW. 

I believe it is only applicable to the Timing class in C#.
