DAQ Assistant Crashes LabVIEW

Solved!
Go to solution

I've read other posts about LabVIEW 8.0 crashing when editing a DAQmx Assistant entity in a VI, and it seems to me like the solution is to upgrade to a newer version of LabVIEW.

I'd rather not have to go down that road (esp. the money aspect), so I was hoping to try uninstalling the DAQmx software and then re-installing a newer version (the newest that is compatible with my USB cDAQ-9172 device - can't remember what version that would be at the moment).

My question to the more experienced is this: is it a (generally) painless process to uninstall the DAQmx software and then re-install a newer version? Will I risk breaking any VIs I've already made and/or generally opening a giant can of worms by doing this?

Hi Brad,

Be sure to check this page before downloading a newer version of DAQmx, because the most recent versions of DAQmx no longer support LabVIEW 8.0: NI-DAQ & LabVIEW Version Compatibility (for Windows)

Brad (nice name, by the way ;)),

Thanks for the link. NI Measurement & Automation Explorer reports that I'm running NI-DAQmx Device Driver version 8.7.1f3, and it looks like 8.7.2 dropped support for LabVIEW 8.0. Guess I won't be upgrading it after all.

Since upgrading LabVIEW to a new version altogether is out of the question at this time, looks like I'll just have to re-run the DAQmx assistant from scratch every time to avoid the crashes while editing. 😕

Could you post some information about the problem, such as which modules you're using, what you're doing when it crashes, how the crash is reported (is there a dialog? does LV just go away?), etc.? It's not supposed to crash, and there might be a better workaround that works with DAQmx 8.7.1.
