snap and save problem

Hi,

I am trying to use the "Snap and Save to File.vi" example that comes with Labview to obtain an image from an IEEE-1394 camera (point grey research). I used MAX to generate the appropriate description/configuration files ("cam0.iid" and "cam0.icd", both found in the following folder : C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-IMAQ for IEEE-1394\Data).

When I run the "Snap and Save to File.vi" example, I get an error ( -1074397145 occured in "IMAQ Init.vi") saying that the interface could not be found.

What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help?

The example uses the standard IMAQ interface.  You need to use the IMAQ 1394 interface.  Either find another example or substitute the equivalent IMAQ 1394 routines for the IMAQ routines.

Where can I find the IMAQ 1394 interface? Where can I find the equivalent IMAQ 1394 routines that will replace the IMAQ routines?

First, I will assume you have purchased the IMAQ 1394 drivers and installed them on your computer.  Do you have any problems getting a live image in MAX?

While editing the diagram, you can right click to get the menu.  Select the Vision/Motion tools.  Select IMAQ 1394 and locate the equivalent vi.  The names are usually quite similar to the IMAQ versions.

Hi Bruce,

I am a grad student at Sherbrooke University (Sherbroke, QC, Canada) and I am using Labview in our lab on a computer with IMAQ 1394 drivers installed and the cam works perfectly in MAX.

What is weird is that when I right click to get the menu et browse in Vision/Motion tools, I only have IMAQ. There are no IMAQ 1394 functions. Should we have paid extra $$$ to get the IMAQ 1394 functions on top of the drivers?

In LabVIEW 8.2, the 1394 drivers show up right below the IMAQ drivers in the Vision and Motion menu.  What version of LabVIEW are you using?

Did you install the firewire drivers after installing LabVIEW?  If you installed 1394 first, it didn't install the LV components.  If you reinstall and add the LV components everything should be fine.

I have Labview 8.0. I just discussed with another grad student who is also using IMAQ to obtain images from an IEEE-1394 cam. He told me he had to buy an add-on for approximately 150$ (CAN). It solved his problem. Upon talking with him, we realized we went through the same problems...

I'll buy the add-on and everything should be fine. For example, with the add-on, te other student has "IMAQdx". I don't. I just have IMAQ...

Anyways, thanks again for your help. I realized I was missing some software through our discussions. The other student spent 2 weeks before to figure that out, so you saved me 8 days of work
