serial or USB infrared camera?

Hello everybody.

I have some experiencie performing applications using labview, but I am a really new user of IMAQ 7.1. The thing is that I need to develop an infrared sensor using a portable camera, I work in volcano monitoring survey, thats why I need something portable. So if you know something that I can work with, please, I`ll be glad to see everyone's oppinion. I need to say that in volcano research is not necesary  high resolution`s devices.

Hi A. Vladimir,

You can use an infrared camera or one that senses heat.  Many have FireWire interfaces and National Instruments has a Driver for FireWire cameras. Also, National Instruments has a portable vision system that uses FireWire.

You may want to talk a Technical Representative, so you can explain you application, and he can make you some recommendations.  If you wish to do this, and want the contact information let me know.

Hola A. Vladimir,

Hello A. Vladimir,

FLIR Thermography sells infrared cameras that work with our NI-IMAQdx driver software.  If you need a lower cost solution and don't need absolute temperature measurements, check out the A10.  For absolute, radiometric temperature data, you should use the A20 or A40.  All 3 of these cameras use FireWire to communcate with a host computer or laptop.

Good luck.  Don't get burned!

Kyle.

USB vs. Serial...

I personally have had more success and less trouble when using USB/Firewire cameras.  NI makes it very easy to hook them up and get going right away through MAX.

Hi!

We specialize in Thermal Imaging. MoviMED is an authorized FLIR reseller and systems integrator.
Depending on whether you are interested in measuring absolute temperatures or relative temperature changes we have many different camera and software solutions for you.
There is also the option of using a hand held camera with LCD monitor that is also compatible with NI software.

FLIR has released a brand new camera the A320 and A320G. They both support GigEthernet and are GeniCAM comliant. Therefore you can use them with the IMAQ drivers for LabVIEW.
The camera has different lens options. This camera has a resolution of 320 x 240 (1/4 VGA). Price points - uncalibrated camera (relative temperature output) around $12k and calibrated version around $18k.

We can assist with custom LabVIEW software development as well.
