Hi everybody,

may I know what is the difference between probability distribuiton and binary image? Why some application or system using probability distribution image but not binary image?

thx

Hello liaw82,

Thank you for contacting National Instruments. A binary image is formed by thresholding a grey scale image and setting all the pixels that belong to a certain intensity threshold interval to 1 and the rest to 0. Following is a document which describes this concept:

Thresholding an Image

Binary images are extensively used by NI Vision for particle analysis, shape mapping and other functions.

Probability distribution of an image should represent the probability that the intensity in a region of the image falls within a certain intensity range. I hope this helps you out. Have a great day!
