Vision Builder for Automated Inpection using USB port

Has anyone been able to use the USB port with Vision Builder for Automated Inspection?

I look forward to any replies.

Hello,

Thank you for using our discussion forum. Unfortunately, with the present version of Vision Builder for Automated Inspection there is no option for acquiring from a USB camera. You can acquire from a USB camera in LabVIEW, save it to a file and then open the image in VBAI. Following is a link to a Knowledgebase where you can download the USB drivers:

NI-IMAQ for USB cameras

I hope this helps you out. Have a great day!

Another thing you can do is sort of the opposite. You can use Vision Builder to create your inspection and then convert it to LabVIEW VIs. You then take these VIs and convert them to use the USB camera VIs instead of the camera-link, fire-wire, or file VIs that you used for developing the inspection. You will need to have quite a bit of LabVIEW experience/smarts, but you should be able to get there.

If you decide to do one of these ideas, let us know how it turns out.

Thanks,
Bob Young

Is it possible to use usb cameras with vision builder 3.0.1?
LabVIEW 8.6 / 2009 / 2010
Vision Development Module 8.6 / 2009 / 2010
VBAI 3.6 / 2010

Hello,

Due to the lack of an industrial USB standard, USB cameras are not supported in Vision Builder for AI 3.0.1.  An alternative you could do would be to create your own VBAI step or run a LabVIEW VI that does the USB Camera acquisition, but this would depend on your acquisition speed.

I don't know if you all have noticed, but Luminera has a plugin for VBAI to acquire images using their USB cameras.  See this post:

Hope this helps,

Hello,

I'm using Vision builder 2.6.1 (that was supposed to work with LV 8.0) and I'm trying to get pictures and controls using LabView VIs. My Labview version is 8.0 but Vision Builder ask me for 7.1 VIs only and suggest me to export the file. When I try to save VIs (anyone) to a previous version, it never can be done with success. What is wrong?
Thank you!

Hello Alecio,

I'm sorry but I'm not sure of what you are attempting.  Are you using the Run LabVIEW VI step or are you exporting your inspection to LabVIEW code?
