Vision Builder GigE Help

I am doing a project where I am trying to get a GigE Camera to work with Vision Build for Automated Inspection. That is I want to read in images from the GigE Camera. The type of camera that I am using is a Mikrotron MC 1364 EoSens GigE Camera. I have managed to get it working with NI MAX, but I don't know what the next step would be to get the camera working with Vision Build AI. Can anyone help?

Hi Jenna!

Thank you for posting to the NI Discussion Forums!  Have you tried and the Acquire Image (IEEE 1394 or GigE) step in VBAI? Are you seeing errors with it? I would also recommend checking out VBAI Configuration Help.  I searched GigE and the third page returned titled How to Acquire an Image with an IEEE 1394 or GigE Camera.

I hope this helps!

This may sound silly but I have tried finding the help information within VBAI and tried acquring an image for a GigE Camera and there were any options there for me to do it. I may be looking in the wrong place, but I am not sure.

Hi Jenna!

I got to the help file by opening VBAI, choosing "Configure Inspection" and then going to Help>> Online Help...  From there I went to the search tab and typed GigE.

I assume you mean there were NOT any options to acquire from a GigE camera... Here is a screen shot of what I see in VBAI.

Do you see the same and it doesn't work for you? Can you clarify what you mean by "options."  Thanks!

Hi Kristen

I am just under a different user name. After looking as the view you showed me I think there something wrong with my VBAI (V3.6) as I do not have that option. This is what I see:

From what I understand my Acquire Image from GigE Camera has been disabled. I don't know why or how that could be. I know that the GigE Camera works because I have to right driver and it works in MAX just fine. It just won't work with VBAI which is what I wish it to do.
Help please?

Jen,

Are you targetting a Smart camera for the VBAI inspection? I believe it only shows you the Smart Camera acquisition step if you are running on a smart camera. A smart camera is not able to acquire from a GigE Vision camera (only a Windows system, RT Desktop, or RT PXI system currently supports GigE camera acquisition).

I'm not sure, but it also may hide the other steps if you do not have the proper support installed (IMAQdx). You may need to install Vision Acquisition and ensure IMAQdx is installed for the step to show up.

I do not want to target the SmartCamera and I have a windows operating system. I have installed Image Acquisition 8.2.1 and the NI-IMAQdx driver when I load the Measurement and Automation Explorer under devices list, the camera appears there just I don't get that option when I load VBAI. I am still not sure why though?

Hi Jenna!

When you first load VBAI do you see this screen?  Is "My Computer" selected?

Hi Kristen,

When I first load VBAI I do see that screen however I can't select "This Computer" as an option. It is in the list in the dropdown menu, but I can not select it.

Hi Jenna!

I have not heard of that being a problem before.  I would try repairing the installation of VBAI.  Go to Control Panel >>Add/Remove Programs >>National Instruments Software.  Select Change/Remove.  Find VBAI from the list and select it.  Then choose Repair.

I hope this helps!
