Vision Builder 2.5: Performance Problems in Configuration Mode

we use vision builder version 2.5 on a system since 2006 without problems till now. on this system there are about 200 different products configured, wich are all a bit similar but doesn't can be summarized by one product.

in the configuration mode, the user select the product and have to adapt some steps "find circular edge". some days ago, there are  delays when the user trys to edit this step. opening the step takes 3-5 seconds, trying to move the searching zones takes sometimes almost no time and then 3-5 seconds. before it worked very well and us are no changes on the system known. with this performance problem its almost not possible to configure the product. the inspection mode works very well.

trying some things i found out, that it occours in all createt inspection. they have all this first 3 steps:

- Acquire Image (Firewire)

- Calibrate Image (from File)

- Find Circular Edge

i created a new product and placed just step 1 and 3 and it worked well. then i placed step 2 (calibrate image) and i had the same problem like in the existing products. i tryed to calibrate simple or from file, its the same problem.

what if done else without problem solution:

- changed harddisk (clone)

- changed memory

- checked system hardware and software

- deinstallation and reinstallation of vision builder AI 2.5

- repair all NI software

i would like to stay on version 2.5 because all products are created and it takes lot of time to recreate them. the same products work on a other system without problems. we use 2 plugins, wich we buyed by qualimatest sa (switzerland) and would have to migrate them too.

i have no more ideas to find a solution of the problem and it would be nice if you can help me... it must exist a simple solution i think... thanks.

Hi extraNI,

Vision Builder 2.5 is quite old, so I guess it's officially no longer supported.

However I try to give you some hints.

From your description I assume it's a system-dependent issue.

Maybe it's the graphics driver or the CPU goes into throtteling mode, because the CPU-cooler is quite old and doesn't cool enough.

I would suggest to create a small demo-inspection (Simulate Aquisition, Calibrate Image, Find Circular Edge).

If you can see the issue on your current computer, install VBAI for testing purposes on another machine and run the demo-inspection there.

Unfortunately this is all I can offer.

we checked the hardware and all drivers... it's OK. all other software on the system works very well.

the demo-inspection i have created all ready. if i put the calibration step i have the delay. without calibration it works well. the same inspection on another system works well too with or without calibration.

is it possible, that other software components works with vision builder software together that the problem occurs? would a reinstallation of other parts or the complet system software be a possible solution?

additional information from my test. i created a inspection 1) and tested. then added step "calibration" for inspection 2), and then deleted step "calibration" for inspection 3). i tried with "tools/benchmark inspection":

1) performance meter result with a inspection with "acquire image" and "find circular edge": 150ms longest inspection time

2) performance meter result with a inspection with "acquire image" and "find circular edge" and "calibration: 5683ms longest inspection time

3) performance meter result with a inspection with "acquire image" and "find circular edge" (after deleting the calibration step): 5901ms longest inspection time

this almost 6 seconds is the delay i told you for the step " find circular edge"....
