Vision 8 Installation

I am getting ready to install latest Vision/Vision Assistant Package (8.0).  What do I need to do to make sure Vision 7.1 is NOT uninstalled? I have software that needs to stay with Vision 7.1.

Thanks,

Don

Good morning Don,

Unfortunately there is no way around the uninstalling of Vision 7.1. All Vision Development Module VI's call back to the same dll, which are overwritten and updated by installing a later version of the software.  You can keep the Vision Assistant 7.1 program on the system, since this is a stand-alone software application.  However, the back-end functions and VI's that the VA calls will be forced to update when Vision 8.0 installed.

If there is any other information that I can offer, please post back!

Is Vision 8 backwards compatible?  Another words, is it possible to work with code using Vision 8, and then bring it up on a computer having Vision 7.1, if VIs from Vision 8 that are not available in Vision 7.1, are not used?

If this is not the case, basically you are telling me I need to work on two different computer systems if I need both Vision 8 for one application but require staying with Vision 7.1 for another?

Sincerely,

Don

I did an experiment where I opened and modified slightly a VI having vision fxs on an computer having LabVIEW 7.1 + Vision8, followed by saving it and then reopening it on a computer with LabVIEW 7.1 + Vision7.1.  No new Vision 8 fxs were employed.   So there does seem to be some 'backward compatibility' which is a good thing.

Good morning Don,

You are correct.  As long as the VI that you originally create in Vision 8.0 does not employ function calls that are not available in Vision 7.1, then there should be backward compatibility!  If there is anything else, please post back!  Smiley Happy
