USB Camera & OCR.

Please i need help in my graduation project (PCB machine vision inspection & we used OCR for ICs part number inspection and search in 1 or more PCB).
My questions are:
  1. Which USB camera  that is suitable with labview, with suitable price & suitable for OCR for the above purpose?
  2. please tell me if the digital cam Genius G-shot P5143 suitable or not?  its  spec (in details) in the attach.
  3. how to use OCR with searching in the PCB on general & with different fonts and differrent positions (horisontal & vertical)?

Hi hjkj,

NI provides a USB camera driver to use with our vision software but be aware that it is not fully supported. There are some known issues with the driver which you can read about on the download page and the readme. It is available for free download and you will need to have Vision Development Module installed for the USB driver to install: NI-IMAQ for USB Cameras. Any USB camera that is DirectShow accessible - DirectShow is a Microsoft API to expose media files - will work with this driver. Most basic WebCams fit this requirement.

As for the specific camera you mentioned, it seems that this would work as it talks of use as a WebCam but the only thing that determines compatibility of the NI-IMAQ for USB Cameras drivers is if DirectShow can access it. The camera may be overkill for your application, but that is something for you to decide.

OCR has a tutorial built into the help menu that will give you an idea of how to start. Please read the linked thread where I have explained where to access the OCR utility:  https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/vision-OCR-Read/m-p/711560

You're welcome! Good luck with your application and please post back if you have any more questions before you start.

If you have a new topic I ask that you please start a new thread to keep our threads easier to navigate.

Thanks!
