System Monitor Can I use it on a CVS?

I am trying to run the example "Grab and Attributes Setup.vi" on a NI 1454 (in LV 8.0).

It just keeps looking up!

I put a wait of 10 seconds in the loop so it only grabs an image once ever 10 seconds. That seems to keep it from locking up.

Should teh example lock up?

Is that the fastest a CVS can run?

I tried looking at the "System Monitor ".

But I get an error message see below.

VI Server is enabled and any machine can connect.

What am I missing?!

BTW: Is there ANY example that will run on a 1454 without locking up?

Hey Ben,

When you say that the CVS keeps locking up, what do you mean, that the program does not acquire images anymore? Or does nothing happen. Why do you add a wait of 10 seconds? The example should not lock up. The CVS can run faster than one image every 10 seconds for sure, a lot faster! Take a look at the Spec sheet for the CVS you have for more specifics on how fast it should run. Also, it depends on what else you have running or what else you have stored on the CVS. What else do you have stored on the CVS? There are many examples that will run on the CVS without locking up. I have ran every IMAQ 1394 example that ships with the 1394 driver without the CVS 1454 locking up. And I was able to acquire up to 15 to 30 frames per second with the examples as well. What else have you done with the CVS other than try to run the example VI? Maybe you should try to format your CVS and start with a fresh install of the software. Maybe something was corrupted somewher during implementation. Let us know how things turn out. Let us know if you have further questions or concerns. Thanks, and have a great day.

How do I tell "what's on it?"

You guys had me reformat this thing a week ago.

I opened a project fouind an example, the CVS locks up.

When the images stop updating I close the VI FP, go back to the project, double click the VI again, it never connects again.

I have to pull the power to start again.

After trying to get the examples working (and failing without the 10 second delay) I now know more about the leds flahs pattern when re-booting than any human should know! I have spent more hours watching this thing re-boot than running any examples. This is driving me nuts.

My wife asked "well did you try 8 seconds)" YES. It is not as if I have not been trying.

Any reason why you did not answer my question on what it takes to get the system monitor running?

These examples are acting like they are eating the CPU alive. (I admit I only tried two but they both lock-up)

Tell me exactly where to find an example that does not lock-up without havint to add extra delays, please.

At this point I am convinced all of that CVS demo I've seen are smoke and mirrors.

Point me to step by step instruction to make this thing work.

I now a lot about LV (i'm a CLA) and have been devloping and answering questions in RT on multiple platforms for years, but there really smells of a problem here.

Hi Ben I know this doesn't answer all of your questions, but are you using the front panel as the object for viewing the images? If you are I would suggest using the RTImage Display or the WindDraw Vi with the display number set to 15. This will output the image to the VGA port on the CVS. The standard examples all output the image to the front panel( i.e. across the ethernet) which could cause problems with bandwidth etc especially if you are on a wireless network at any point. I have seen similar in the past where I max out the ethernet connection and then have to restart. This may also explain the RTSM problem as it could be timing out not getting the bandwidth to set up. I'll see if I can find a monitor to hook up.

If that work there is a BUG in CVS if the canned examples work with the local display but lock when run remotely.

Hi Ben -

Rest assured that we're looking into the issue and trying to figure out a solution for you.  You probably haven't seen any replies recently because we're gathering information or testing things out.

You also have twofold symptoms here:  The RT System Monitor isn't behaving correctly and the IMAQ1394 examples dont' run properly on the CVS.  These issues could be related, but it's tough to find one person with absolute expertise in all areas of system development.  I'm good at debugging CVS, IMAQ, and FireWire issues, but another supporter (like Mike, perhaps) may be more familiar with the RT System Monitor and  LVRT software behaviors.  As such, it'll take a little collaboration on our end, which can add to the time it takes to get a response to you.

On that note, I want you to know that I'm talking to the Vision/CVS development team directly about this issue so we can solve it quickly.  I've hooked up a brand new CVS here and run two of the shipping examples over the network without incident, so the problem is local to your setup and not a flaw in the hardware.  Once we can all figure out together what's going wrong, I'll post a reply with the answer.

I managed to get the System Monitor running after loading a simple loop with delay program.

At the very least the info message appears missleading if the issue I did not have any code running.

No I have to retract that.

I was trying to review my steps and now the System Manager is refusing to run again.

I believe I am starting to loose ground.

Can a camera kill a CVS?

I don't understand.
