PCMCI

Hi,

I am looking into using a Firewire Camera with a laptop . The laptop doesn't have a Firewire port in it. I would be buying a PCMCI firewire card. First of all I would like to know if NI - IEEE 1394 drivers will work with PCMCI firewire card (Camera gets power from external surce). If any of you have used it than could you give me the manufacturer's name for the PCMCIA card?

Thanks

Hi K_Seeker,

Thanks for using our Discussion Forums. PCMCIA firewire is certainly a compatible way to use our IMAQ firewire programming options. The one I use personally is made by SIIG, Inc from Fremont, CA.

As a side note, one thing you might also want to purchase with this would be an externally powered firewire hub. Sometimes the power from a laptop is not enough to sufficiently power a firewire camera. If you use an externally powered firewire hub, that will not be a problem.

Good luck on your application!

Dan,

Thanks for your response. Could you give me the brand name for the Externaly Powered Firwire Hub that you have good experience with. I have found one from ynchrotech (http://www.synchrotech.com/product-1394/hubs_01.html).

Thanks
