You would need the NI OCR toolkit for performing optical character recognition. The NI OCR Software is an add-on package to the NI Vision Development Module.

As of last week, version 7.1 of the NI Vision Development Module natively includes OCR support for LabVIEW, C, and Visual Basic without having to purchase an extra toolkit.

Two questions regarding the OCR Software:

1. The application we are interested in using the OCR software with would be reading lighted characters from a display panel. Can the OCR software read these types of characters? We want to be sure that the software can work in this situation before we purchase it because if it can't, the OCR software would be of no use to us.

2. If we develop an application using Vision for Visual Basic and incorporate the OCR software into that application, would we require separate licences for the OCR software in addition to the Vision Deployment Licenses already required for the application? That is, for each machine we deploy the application to, would we require a Vision Deployment License AND a license for the OCR softwa
re? If there are separate licenses required for the OCR software, what is the cost of those OCR licenses?

We currently have the PCI-1409 board, NI-IMAQ for Windows, IMAQ Vision for Measurement Studio, IMAQ Vision Builder, and the IMAQ Vision Deployment Engine and associated licenses. These were purchased in April, 2004.

Would we be eligible for an upgrade to version 7.1 of the NI Vision Development module that natively includes OCR support? Is there a cost associated with the upgrade?
