Because there is no standard cable or pin connections in the digital camera industry, unless you have a camera link camera and card, then it becomes impossible to describe pins and have a card for each and ever camera out there. Depending on what functions your camera supports and what is outlined in the camera file, then the various control and enable lines may or may not be used. If you look at the manual for the PXI-1422, then you will see these general pinouts and then on page 4-3, there is a brief description of these lines giving you examples of what the lines are used for in most cameras.

In order to make sure that t
he correct connections are made you will need to refer to the Dalsa manual as well to be sure that you understand what lines should be connected. In general, as long as the key lines, such as pixel clock and data, are wired correctly then you should get an image.
In regards to your second question, the camera file will include a number of attributes that you can control programmatically and through Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX). The camera file will be configured to adjust the necessary control line or send the correct serial commands (depending on the camera) to adjust these settings and give you the correct Exposure Time or Integration.
To adjust these settings I would begin by examining the properties in MAX and adjusting the settings there. As you do this, snap or grab images and you should be able to see the changes you have made to the attributes.
