variable manager and network variable

Dear all,
I upgraded my CVI to 8.1 and I wanted to use the Network Variable library but the example codes give errors. The variable manager does not work either: when I make a new process and a new variable and I try to edit it I get the error: Error 1184 occurred at DataSocket Write in VarMan Write to Variable NATIONAL_INSTRUMENTS.vi->Variable Manager NATIONAL_INSTRUMENTS.vi, Possible reason(s): LabVIEW:  Path not found, FTP login incorrect, or no FTP write permission.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hello Michele,

can you tell me what is the NI library example you are using? Maybe the item you are trying to edit does not provide the required write permission and this could be the reason for such errors to occur.

Dear Fabio_81,
I tried with some of the samples in the \networkvariable\ directory, such as the Publisher and Subscriber. I also tried the standalone NI program Variable Manager.

Hello Michele,

I'm runnign the "publisher" library example and It seems to work correctly; a possible cause for the error (take a look to this document) may be the fact that you used blank spaces in your item name.

Also, do you have some permission restriction related to the ftp of your network? This also could not allow a correct data socket communication.

Hi MMichele,

simply datasocket does not accept space characters as valid inputs when defining an item.
