edit menu crash

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

several times now I have reproduced a crash of CVI 2009 SP1 when trying to edit a menu. (There is also a way to do it without a crash, luckily.)

The way to reproduce the crash:

- open the UIR in the CVI UIR editor

- move the mouse over the (dimmed) menu item (in my case: Statistics / Robust Statistics)

- right click 'Edit'

- in the menu editor go to the menu and deselect 'Dimmed'

- Press OK

CVI will immediately shutdown / disappear (without saving the changes in the UIR file)

I have uploaded the UIR file to NI incoming ftp site...

I can confirm that this also happens on 2009-no-SP version [  9.1.0(428)  ]

Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

Hey guys -

This is a known issue with CVI 2009 (SP1) - bug ID 247630.  Unfortunately, a little bit of process error prevented it from being added to the Known Issues List.  I'll update the necessary internals to make sure it shows on the Known Issues List the next time I update it.

Hi Nick,

I just ran into this issue again - obviously it has not been fixed in CVI2010.

Moreover, I could not find it in the 2010 known issue list....

Hey Wolfgang -

The original bug you reported should be fixed for 2010.  I've just tried, and haven't been able to reproduce the original crash.  Can you give new steps to reproduce what you're seeing??

Also, I know it's been a little while since this was originally reported, but I haven't had a chance to do a full update of the Known Issues List to include this bug.  Hopefully soon.

Hi Nick,

so far I've seen it only once (luckily)... I'll try a few more times and if I 'succeed' I'll let you know.

Hi Nick,

it happened a second time. I also manged not to have it happen. It appears that a prerequisite is that the source file is not saved when you right click on the menu in the UI editor.

Hi Nick,

I think that I have found the path to reproduce the crash of CVI2010 mentioned above:

1) In the CVI IDE, open a UIR, change something without saving the file, i.e. copy and paste a control

2) Left click on the menu bar of the unsaved panel and select Edit

That seems to be all needed to say good bye to CVI

Wolfgang

PS: If you can't reproduce it, I could post the UIR on your ftp site, just let me know
