We are upgrading our Test PC"s and are using WinXP instead of Win2K and running the same program, it is much slower on WinXP than on Win2K.
All the tests are slower than Win2K but for discussion I will only look at a test that is RS485 baesed.
PC with XP OS setup: W2K OS setup:
CVI 6.0 same
IVI Engine 1.83 1.51
CVI Runtime Engine 9.0.0.348 same
NI Spy 2.3.2 2.2.0.12
NI-488.2 2.43 2.42
NI-CAN 2.3.2f1 2.3
NI-PAL 1.10.0f0 1.9.3f
NI-VISA 3.4.1 2.01
NI-DAQ (Tradition) 7.4.1f1 6.9.3f3
Both PC have Core2Dual CPU 3.0Ghz
Both have 2.0GB RAM, SATA hard drive
We did a comparison of the execution time of the RS485 traffic using the Portmon software on XP and W2K PC.
The XP took 6 secs, and W2K took 2 secs. Multiply this time difference by a few hundred tests.
This is why when we use XP we are about 40mins slower than when we ran W2K.

It looks like all of the software that you have installed on the XP machine is newer than the Win2K machine except for NI-PAL. A newer version should be installed when you run this package http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/lang/en/id/1529. I've never tested on a windows 2K machine, if anyone else has seen similar performance issues could you let everyone know?
