Annoying IDE behavior

This is one for the NI developers that I am also going to put in as a feature request but I want opinions from others here to possibly force some attention to this issue.

I am using CVI 8.0.1 now and have noticed a truly annoying behavior in CVI's IDE since it was all integrated (version 6.0 maybe? Definitely after 5.5...)

That annoying behavior is that CVI insists on taking focus when it hits certain points in a build. I'll start a build, minimize CVI while it churns through my code and then be happily checking e-mail or doing something in another application until CVI decides that it wants attention (even though it doesn't need it). This can be extremely vexing because I am often in the middle of typing something when it does this and have to remove the stuff CVI inadvertently got in whatever source code window was open and active when it popped itself up and then have to put it back where it belongs in some other application.

Anyone else find this behavior as annoying as I do?

I'd really like to see CVI simply behave and sit in the background until I am ready to go check on it. A final "Hey I'm done with the build" dialog box is all that is needed and it really does not need to be system modal, only application modal.

Could we PLEASE have this annoying behavior fixed in the next release?

Hello Martin,

just a quick message to let you know that I totally agree with you. When building big applications I also like to do other things instead of just sitting back, kick my shoes off and watch that progress bar moving slowly to 100% Smiley Wink

Absolutely agree.  While this is not a critical issue most of the time, on those occasions when I am working with repeated large application builds it can be extremely annoying.

I would very much encourage everyone who agrees that this behavior is bad to go to the feedback page and let NI know directly as well as posting any comments you might have here in this thread.

Hello Martin and others,

Thank you very much for your feedback on this issue and we appreciate your creating product suggestions.
I have filed a corrective action request for this issue so that R&D developers can address it for the future releases of CVI.

Thanks again and best regards,
