Feature Request: Support for Additional 3rd Party Installers when building an Installer

This idea has been posted in the LabVIEW Idea Exchange forum, but I think it's extremely useful also for a CVI application.

What do you think about this request?

Hi vix,

Yes, this is something that we're considering, although I don't have a solid timeframe for it yet. When we do address it, we'll most likely do it simultaneously in LabVIEW and CVI.

Thanks!

Hi,

As Luis mentioned, CVI does not offer this today but it is a feature that we are considering to include in the future. Improvements to the distribution management is an area that we have been investigating and would like to make this process easier for CVI developers.

In the meantime, I would like to point out a good workaround for including additional installer components with your CVI distribution. You can add 3rd part installer components to the CVI distribution and configure them to automatically run after/during the CVI application installation

This can be done by following these steps:

  1. Create a Managed Distribution by selecting Build»Distributions»Manage Distribution
  2. From here, you can either Edit an existing distribution or create a New one
  3. Once you have launched the Edit Installer Wizard for the distribution, select the Files tab
  4. In the Files tab»Local Files & Directories window, navigate to the location in which the 3rd party installer components reside
  5. You can then add an entire folders or an individual file by selecting Add Contents or Add File
  6. To configure the 3rd part installer to launch after/during the CVI installation, right-click on the file in the Installation Files & Directories window and select File Options
  7. In the Installation File Options window, you can configure the 3rd part installer to launch after installation or launch during installation. You can also configure command line arguments.

Thank you again for the feedback and feature suggestion.
