visa addresses missing

Hello, I have several PCs running LV 8.5 but on one laptop the VISA address controls show no devices when I click refresh. I can use MAX to talk to my devices but not VISA contols. It seems like NI VISA is not even installed but when I tried to reload my 3 device drivers CDs dated 2007, I get a message that nothing will be installed. (as if everything has already been installed).

I see no LPT1 or Com1 or anything in the control. I removed all but one GPIB device and used MAX to query it just fine. But when I do a visa write to it I get and addressing problem. (sorry I forgot to write the error code down before I left work yesterday)

Any ideas?

Thnaks a lot!

It does sound like there is a problem with the VISA installation. When you use the instrument query tool in MAX for a GPIB instrument, it does not use VISA at all so your test doesn't prove anything except that the GPIB driver is installed. You could try uninstalling VISA and then do a re-install. Providing the error code would also be helpful.

Hello V-rob,

Here is the link for the latest VISA driver.  You can install it from this link or from your driver CD.

The problem is fixed. I removed and reinstalled NI-VISA but that didn't help. I removed labview 8.5 and 8.2 entirely and reinstalled 8.5 and now I see my VISA devices.

Thank you very much
