Hi Vaj,

Have you looked through this tutorial? When you look in MAX do you see your device as it's shown in figure 8?

Other good articles about USB connectivity & communication:

What is USBTMC and How Can I Communicate with My USB Instrument?

How Can I Communicate With a Device Using NI-VISA USB RAW Mode?

Why Do the NI-VISA USB Specific Attributes Not Appear in LabVIEW Property Nodes?

Let us know if this helps.

thanks!

Does the HP Agilent generator have a usb interface of its own or are you using some sort of serial dongle to make the connection. The basic reason is probably that the usb (where ever it's located) is emulating a serial interface, hence the new interface will show up as a com port. Try looking for a new com port that appears in the device manage when the instrument is plugged in.

Hi Vaj,

Are you saying that you cannot open up MAX (Measurement and Automation Explorer)? That would indicate bigger problems.

If you have been unsuccessful installing Ni-VISA then LabVIEW will most likely not be able to run anything, as indicated in the previous post. You want to go into the Windows control panel, and in the "Add or Remove programs" remove all of the National Instruments software, then reinstall it. Ni-VISA as well as Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) should have been installed at teh time of the LabVIEW installation, they are key parts for what you are doing. If you don't uninstall everything (tedious, a pain in the rear end) you run the risk of something remaining that is broken or incorrect. I just had to to do this twice at a customer, but it was the only way to make sure that the right drivers, etc., had been installed.
