tools palette in tool bar

Hi, I'm a comparative new-comer to LabVIEW so this might have been discussed long ago.  Question: why not have the tools palette along the top, in the tool bar where there is lots of empty space? Even the functions palette for the LabVIEW block diagram and controls palette for the front panel might fit on the tool bar. I find it very annoying having to move these palettes when working on a flowsheet.

You don't have to move them. just close them and everytime you need them do the followings:

fetchin controls palette: right click on the block diagram

fetchinf function palette: right click on the block diagram

fetching tools palette: shift+right click on both front panel and block digram

also you can show them by trying "window" in the menu!

Thanks Soroush, I'm aware of those mouse clicks.

I am used to another logging package where the the functions are in the tool bar.  Turning the the palettes off and on seems clumsy.

LabVIEW isn't a "logging package", but a programming environment. As such it does need a lot of tools available, and I don't think they would fit nicely in the toolbar. If you want the palettes to be more convenient, go to the options menu and select the advanced palette view instead of the express one. You will see now that it's much easier to use the right-click-to-get-palette trick. Most people use high-res (1280x1024 and up), which can also help.

To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).

Though LV provides many ways to open tools palette, put it in the tool bar will be most convienint! or, at least, let user to config this.

If you want NI to hear you, you should file your request at the product suggestion center, although I doubt it's very likely to happen.

If you are indeed refering to the tools palette (and not the functions palette) you can have that open all the time or open it using shift+right click in any free space of your FP\BD.

thank u for telling me product suggestion center,i've submit my suggestions. i'd feel very glad if u can refer to it.

i do refer to the tools palette.

i personally think NI should not only improve technology, but also improve the operation-convenience for user, especially  satisfy different using-habit of user.

Designing UI options so that they will be easy to understand is a tricky thing.

In this specific case, most users either have the palette on all the time, use the keyboard shortcuts (tab) to switch tools or use the auto tool. Personally, I use the auto tool and I only usually need the tools palette when coloring stuff.
