I found the automatic time setting on my MAC but it doesn't have GMT or UTC; it has BST which is London and uses daylight savings time so is an hour off 6 months out of the year.

I still don't have it right. How do I separate the date from the time? Fri Apr 4 17:04:25 2008
Shouldn't [0-9][0-9][:] work?

got it. match pattern seems to work better than split string.
