string constant bug

Ran into this really weird problem this morning and I couldn't believe my eyes when I thought I found out what the problem really was, and I'd like to see if someone else can replicate/refute this. I checked the boards, but either I didn't enter a good enough search criteria, or this hasn't been brought up. Working in LabVIEW 8.2. Here's the scenario:
  1. Start LabVIEW.
  2. Create a blank VI.
  3. On the block diagram create a string constant.
  4. In the string constant enter the following: " anything" (note the space at the beginning - very important.). Stay in the string constant.
  5. Now, in the string constant, press the Ctrl-Left Arrow keys to move the cursor left by word. You should be at the beginning of the word "anything".
  6. Now, press Ctrl-Left Arrow again. At this point LabVIEW apparently goes nuts, pegging the CPU usage at 100%, forcing you to terminate the process.
I've been able to replicate this each time I run LabVIEW. I'm on a Windoze machine, running XP SP2.

I see this too.

Except I don't see a 100% processor usage, only 50%.  This is because I have a hyperthreading CPU..... Emoticono feliz

I don't know why I really wanted to see this for myself, knowing that it would probably crash LabVIEW. Nonetheless, I did it. It acted exactly as you said. 100% CPU and when I closed the vi it said LV wasn't responding.

A very weird bug, indeed.

By the way, this also occurs with Controls on the front panel......

It's not specific to Constants.

It behaves the same way on Mac OS X, except that the meta key is Alt (or option) rather than Control.
