software operation from a CD

I would like to have an application that can be used from a CD, jump drive, external media, mobile software without the requirement of the install to each PC.  I want the application to be functional without the requirement of any installation to the PC itself.  Can the executable install directory be that of an extrenal drive and then be used on whatever PC desired.  Any other suggestions for this type of application would be appreciated.

Hi RJ,

two problems:
1) For a LabView executable you need the LV RuntimeEngine to be installed - this will be done when you create an installer from the appbuild dialog.
2) LabView executable need (want to have) some write access to files like [executable].ini - this can lead into problems when using CD-Roms. USB drives should work here...
Best regards,
GerdW

Back in the old days of LabVIEW you where able to do this.
All it needs was to put your exe and the lvrt.dll into the same direktory on disk/stick. I remember doing it with 5.1 and 6.1 (not 100% shure about this).
You could even use the rs232 without the need of a VISA installation by using the old legacy serial vis that uses the serdrv.dll (which also needs to be in the same dir).
